Vegetarian Diet to Your Rescue - Best fuel for our Immune System

by Sara Marshall

Our immune system arms such an extraordinary coordinated security system against invaders that our immune system still continues to mystify scientists! Inspite of the advancement of modern science, no replacement can be found for the immune system. Our body immune system is the best doctor in the world - it is very powerful and superior than any drug. To keep our army in prime form, vegetables and fruits diet is the solution.

Take the example of two people exposed to the same swine flu break out. One person falls seriously ill but the other person doesn't. Although they are exposed to the same virus attack, only the individual with a weak immune system becomes ill with the flu.

Studies by World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report that as developing countries become more and more urbanized, even traditionally vegetarian societies for example the Indians and Chinese are going for high-fat, meat-rich food over high-vegetable food. The report also conveyed that the prevalence of heart disease in China and India is worst than all developed countries put together. India is reported to have the world's biggest diabetic population.

On the other hand, South Korea, which still have a vegetarian diet, shows lower fat intake and lower rates of chronic diseases than countries of similar economic status.

The statistic above is due to the fact that our immune system grows healthier on a healthy diet and good rest, poor nutrition and pressure can make us fall ill quicker.

Wholesome plant foods are rich in vitamins and minerals. Certain plant foods, for example soy are also rich in protein. Experts have reported that vegetables and fruits provide estimated 40 nutrients or more. For example, an orange provides us with a healthy amount of vitamin C, in addition to beta-carotene, d-Limonene, folic acid, potassium, calcium and a lot more of other nutrients.

Everyone of us would hope to live long, healthy lives, free of chronic diseases like heart disease, hypertension, stroke, cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis. But majority of us still consume unhealthy foods whenever we want and as much as we want, without thinking of the consequences.

If we choose the best fuel for our vehicles, why don't we take healthy vegetarian diets for our bodies?
