Sugar Withdrawal And Its Symptoms

by Beth Hoover

Achieving a healthy body requires being more conscious with the foods that we eat. The food we take in as we all know forms an essential part of our health and overall well-being.However, not too many people are aware of the fact that the foods that we take in have an adverse effect on our health. That is why a lot of people have developed unhealthy eating habits which can further lead into more serious health conditions just because they are unaware of the consequences of the food that they eat.

As what many health and wellness experts would reiterate, too much of a something is very disadvantageous to our health. Thus, to have a better grasp on proper nutrition and the right amount of nutrients that our bodies need, we need to educate ourselves more about the nutrients that we consume. There are nutrients that are very essential to our bodily processes and there are also these nutrients that should only be taken in a certain amount only.Furthermore, we must pay attention to the consequences of developing our addictions to unhealthy foods.

Sweet foods such as cake, candies, chocolates as well as beverages like soft drinks are all-time favorites and foods that are usually addictive. We may be unconscious of it, but habitual consumption of these foods might involuntarily cause us to develop addictions to sugar, which is not good for our health.Sugar was thought to be a harmless substance but as medical advances were made, it was discovered to be a destructive one. Too much sugar consumption has been singled out as the major cause of diabetes, a disease which has been affecting many people worldwide. In addition, sugar has also been discovered as a substance which causes our immune system to deteriorate, making us more prone to many chronic diseases and health problems.

That is why many health experts would recommend cutting down our sugar intake as much as possible so as to avoid developing the risks of diabetes and other chronic diseases and health problems. However, reducing our sugar intake is easier said than done.Overcoming sugars is actually more like quitting some of our bad habits like smoking and drinking, which are bad habits to break. The great news is that regulating our sugar intake is achievable as long as we will commit ourselves in doing this.

Since addiction to sugar is just like being addicted to smoking or alcohol, overcoming sugars means that we also have to handle the symptoms of sugar withdrawal. It is important that we know of these sugar withdrawal symptoms which are only a normal part of the process of cutting down our sugar intake. Knowing these symptoms first can help us in having an easier time in dealing with them and we would not be surprised if we suddenly feel or experience these symptoms.

Some of the obvious sugar withdrawal symptoms include headaches, fatigue, depression, drowsiness, skin eruptions, and mucus or throat discomfort. These symptoms such as mood swings, fatigue and drowsiness occur normally among those who are trimming down their sugar intake because of the dietary change and changes in the blood sugar levels. There is no need to be anxious since there will come a day that you will feel better and free from these symptoms. These symptoms appear in a more restrained way and usually last for a week or two.

Overcoming sugars is not an easy thing to do. Cutting down on sugar is like quitting some of our bad habits like smoking and drinking, which are bad habits to break. Removing sugar from our diet means that we also have to deal with the symptoms of sugar withdrawal. It is important that we know of these symptoms which are only a normal part of the process of cutting down our sugar intake.
